Botanical Watercolour and Drawing Fundamentals

Wednesday 14th of August | 10am - 12pm
$25 including all materials.

Join us in the relaxed surroundings of Nest Studio to learn the fundamentals of Botanical watercolour and drawing. Taught by Botanical Artist Jennifer Dudley

Using photographs and some legitimate fresh and dried specimens from SEED’s “Strange” resource collection, class members will use drawing, painting and monoprinting techniques to examine and portray the truly unusual appearance and unique botanical qualities of local native vegetation, exploring the amazing structures of their flowers, fruits and leaves and the “personas” of their flowers.

Jennifer Dudley is an artist who has appreciated Botanical Art for many years but only began drawing Western Australian native plants since 2016. She spends time enjoying walking in the bush, photographing wildflowers, shrubs and trees, as well as growing and maintaining those in her own garden and now makes art from these experiences, exhibiting most recently at “Beauty in the Bush” at Kelmscott in June 2018.

In 2017, she has became a member of the Wildflower Society’s Education Sub-Committee and one of their SEEDS team of educators who present a range of Bush centred interpretative Cool Fun, Science, Art and Writing Activities for Kids and their parents at a variety of venues around Perth. The team encourages participants to “Know, Grow, Conserve and Enjoy” the very special but increasingly endangered natural legacy of Western Australia’s Wildflowers and their diverse ecologies. These perspectives will also guide Jennifer’s classes here at Nest.
